Attendance Policy
Regular school attendance is essential for a successful school experience. Instructional continuity is disrupted, and valuable interaction with teachers and classmates is lost when a student is frequently absent, tardy, or dismissed early.

Recognizing that consistent attendance is necessary for students to gain the full benefits of their education, Freedom Academy encourages all parents and guardians to promote punctuality and regular attendance habits with their children.

In addition, state law requires school attendance.
According to Arizona State Law (A.R.S. §§ 15-802.A and 15-803.E), every person who has custody of a child between the ages of six and sixteen years must ensure that the child attends school for the full time school is in session unless the child is unable to attend due to illness or another legitimate reason.

Excused Absences
According to A.R.S. § 15-901(A)(1), excused absences are defined by the Arizona Department of Education as absences due to illness, doctor appointments, bereavement, family emergencies, religious purposes, or out-of-school suspensions.

All other absences are considered unexcused. In addition, all absences exceeding 10% of instructional days (18 days in a school year) must be reported as unexcused.

All absences (excused or unexcused) must be reported by 9:00 a.m. You may report an absence by calling the Freedom Academy office or by using the absence link on our website. If a parent or guardian has not reported the absence by 9:00 a.m., the school will call to verify.

-
After seven (7) absences, parents/guardians will receive a letter reminding them of the importance of attendance.
-
After ten (10) absences, parents/guardians must meet with school administration to complete an attendance contract.
-
After eighteen (18) absences, the parent/student may be referred to Juvenile Court for further action.

Students absent for ten (10) consecutive school days, except for excused reasons listed above, will be withdrawn from school pursuant to A.R.S. § 15-901(A)(2). The governing board may also take disciplinary action that may include expulsion, in accordance with A.R.S. § 15-342.

Tardiness
Attendance is taken daily at 8:05 a.m. for all grades.
If your student arrives after the flag salute, they must sign in at the front office to receive a tardy pass before going to class. Students may sign themselves in; parents or guardians are not required to do so.
Students are allowed four (4) grace tardies per quarter. After that, the following consequences apply:

-
5th Unexcused Tardy: Detention
-
6th Unexcused Tardy: Detention
-
7th Unexcused Tardy: Phone call from the principal and detention
-
8th Unexcused Tardy: Phone call from the principal and in-school suspension
-
9th Unexcused Tardy: Meeting with the principal and attendance contract

Please note that excessive tardies or absences may result in an attendance contract and could affect promotion to the next grade.

School Uniforms
At Freedom Academy, we believe a neat and consistent appearance helps create a focused, respectful, and pride-filled learning environment. Our uniform policy keeps things simple, comfortable, and easy for families.

Students may wear navy blue or khaki uniform bottoms purchased from a verified uniform vendor or the uniform section of a department store.
-
Bottoms must have a regular fitted waistline, no low-rise, skinny, or jogger-style pants.
-
Fabric should be loose-fitting and non-stretchy (no spandex or jegging material).
-
Shorts should reach the top of the knee, and pants that are too tight will be considered out of dress code.
-
Cargo shorts and pants are allowed.
Girls may wear skirts, skorts, or jumpers in navy blue, khaki, or the school’s red/blue plaid.
All skirts, skorts, and jumpers must be worn with fitted bike shorts underneath for comfort and modesty. Skorts and shorts should come to the knee.

At Freedom Academy, student safety is our top priority , especially during dismissal. To keep the process organized and efficient, we use Schoolhouse Driveline, a system that ensures every student is released safely and only to authorized family members.

Students remain safely in their classrooms until it’s time for pickup. Once your number is entered into Driveline, teachers are notified instantly, and your child is sent out to meet you — no waiting outside, no confusion, and no lost time.

Here’s How Dismissal Works
-
Arrive at school at the dismissal time of your oldest child. (Families are dismissed together.)
-
Driving? Join the pickup line and pull forward as directed by staff.
Walking? Please wait in line as well — this helps keep dismissal running smoothly. -
Display your family’s colored placard clearly on your dashboard or hold it up. Students are called by number, so having your placard visible is essential.
-
A staff member enters your number into the Driveline system, alerting your child’s teacher that you’ve arrived.
-
Teachers release students from the classroom when their number appears. Staff members then escort them directly to your car or pickup point.

Students who walk home or are picked up off campus are released after the main dismissal (around 3:20 p.m.), allowing a clear and safe crossing at the crosswalk.
Please always use the crosswalk and encourage your children to do the same — it’s a simple way to help us keep everyone safe.
